HorseCenter: Picks for Lecomte, Silverbulletday and Louisiana

This week on HorseCenter, your hosts Brian Zipse and Matt Shifman offer analysis and top picks for three stakes races on Saturday at Fair Grounds, led by Kentucky Derby hopefuls in the Grade 3 Lecomte Stakes.

A field of eight was drawn for the Lecomte, which offers increased qualifying points for the 2023 Kentucky Derby. Trainer Brad Cox has two 3-year-olds in the field, led by Instant Coffee, winner of the Kentucky Jockey Club (G2).

The fillies are on the road to the Kentucky Oaks in the Silverbulletday, which drew a field of seven. The morning-line favorite is the Cox trainee Chop Chop, who missed winning the Alcibiades (G1) by a nose before trying the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (G1) and finishing 13th.

The older male handicap division is represented in the Louisiana (G3) with a competitive field of nine. Once again, Brad Cox has the favorite in Zozos who has a strong allowance victory at Fair Grounds in his first start since running in the 2022 Kentucky Derby.

Matt and Brian selected six different horses in this week’s top picks segment to help with your handicapping. As always, thanks for watching the show.
