HorseCenter: Kentucky Derby 2021 early contenders

Photo:

Today on HorseCenter, your co-hosts Brian Zipse and Matt Shifman take their first look at Kentucky Derby 2021, running down their early list of top contenders.

Last year in their first look at the Derby, the guys were able to identify the second- and fourth-place finishers in the 2020 Run for the Roses.

This year the list contains a baker’s dozen 2-year-olds led by Breeders’ Cup Juvenile winner Essential Quality. There are horses from the East Coast and the West Coast; promising maiden winners from top trainers Bill Mott, Todd Pletcher, and Bob Baffert; and even a horse that is winless after three starts.

It’s never too early to start making your Derby lists, so let HorseCenter get you started. And as always, thanks for watching the show.
