HorseCenter: Alabama Stakes and King's Plate top picks

This week on HorseCenter, Brian Zipse and Matt Shifman handicap and offer top picks for Saturday's Grade 1 Alabama at Saratoga as well as the King's Plate from Woodbine. Both races will be run at the classic distance of 1 1/4 miles.

The Alabama drew a field of eight 3-year-old fillies, who include six stakes winners. Division leader Thorpedo Anna is preparing for the Travers (G1) on Aug. 24, so Candied will be the favorite based on her second in the Coaching Club American Oaks (G1) earlier at Saratoga.

The King’s Plate starts the Triple Crown for Canada-bred 3-year-olds and drew a field of 13. Trainer Mark Casse has three entered, and they all have a chance to win. Last year’s champion 2-year-old in Canada My Boy Prince will be the favorite after winning his last three starts, including the Plate Trial.

Next week, HorseCenter will feature Matt and Brian’s Travers show with picks, analysis and suggested wagers. As always, thanks for watching the show and see you next Wednesday.
