HorseCenter: 2024 Kentucky Derby recap, Preakness preview

Photo:

This week on HorseCenter, Brian Zipse and Matt Shifman recap all the excitement from the 2024 Kentucky Derby, which was won by Mystik Dan, as well as the Grade 1 Kentucky Oaks victory by Thorpedo Anna. Your hosts also take an early look at the Preakness Stakes, with Muth a likely favorite.

Matt and Brian talk about the three-way photo finish in the Kentucky Derby, which was won by Mystik Dan. After the early pacesetters faded, Mystik Dan got an exciting trip along the rail while Sierra Leone and Forever Young bumped and battled their way down the middle of the track to finish second and third.

Thorpedo Anna looked like a winner every step of the way in the Kentucky Oaks last Friday. The victory gave trainer Kenny McPeek and jockey Brian Hernandez Jr. a win in the first leg of the Oaks and Derby daily double, which they completed on Saturday.

HorseCenter will be back next week on Wednesday with continued coverage of the 2024 Preakness. As always, thanks for watching the show.
