HorseCenter: 2024 Kentucky Derby, Oaks top 10 rankings

This week on HorseCenter your hosts Brian Zipse and Matt Shifman unveil their brand-new top 10 rankings for the 2024 Kentucky Derby and the Grade 1 Kentucky Oaks. Breeders' Cup winners Fierceness and Just F Y I top the lists.

Led by Fierceness, the new HorseCenter top 10 for Kentucky Derby contenders begins with the same three horses as the Horse Racing Nation list that is open to input from readers. Also, the rankings from Matt and Brian contain four of the top 10 horses from the official Derby points list. Hall of Fame trainers Todd Pletcher and Bob Baffert each have two of the top four ranked 3-year-olds. The leading sires are Gun Runner, Good Magic and Nyquist with two each.

Brian and Matt made Just F Y I the no. 1 Kentucky Oaks contender on the HorseCenter list, which contains five of the 10 fillies on the official Oaks points list. Trainers Richard Mandella and Pletcher each have two of the top contenders, and Gun Runner again is the leading sire with a pair of the ranked fillies.

Also on the show, the guys take a look at upcoming prep races where qualifying points offered on the road to the Oaks and the Derby will double to 20-10-6-4-2 and some promising contenders who were recently impressive maiden winners.
