Frank Whiteley trained Ruffian won the Spinaway Stakes by 13 lengths at Saratoga Racecourse, ending her two-year-old season with a 5-for-5 record. Ruffian was subsequently voted champion juvenile filly. ~1974
 
A record Travers Stakes crowd of 66,122 turned out August 23 to witness Ten Most Wanted capture the "Mid-Summer Derby" by 4 ½ lengths, topping the previous mark of 60,486 in 2001 when Point Given triumphed. The single day on-track handle on Travers day of $9,390,934 set a record topping the $8,642,160 wagered on Travers day in 1991. The total commingled handle of $39,489,786 on Travers day surpassed the old record of $34,529,273 also set in 1991. ~2003
 
Man O' War went back to his winning ways in the Grand Union Hotel Stakes at Saratoga when he won by a length, while being eased at the end.  He again carried 130 pounds, giving up 5-18 pounds to the others.  He covered the 6 furlongs in 1:12 flat, and earned $7,600.  Chart states: "Man o' War followed Upset in early running under slight restraint, took the lead at his rider's leisure, and drew away in the stretch to win easing up in through the last sixteenth."  7 wins in 8 starts ~1919
