John Galbreath, founder of Darby Dan Farm, died at age 90. He was the first person to have owned and bred winners of the Kentucky Derby (Chateaugay and Proud Clarion) and the Epsom Derby (Roberto). ~1988
 
Jockey Rosemary Homeister Jr. became Thoroughbred racing's second winningest female jockey when she rode Gambles List to victory in the third race at Colonial Downs. The win was the 2,138th of Homeister's career. Julie Krone holds the all-time record for wins by a female rider with 3,704. ~2009
