Mucho Macho Man Works for Alysheba

The switch from Gulfstream's fast surface to Churchill Downs' deeper surface did not faze Mucho Macho Man one bit. The Macho Uno colt logged his first recorded work under the Twin Spires, and Kostas Hatzikoutelis and Dream Team Racing Stable could not have been happier with how their star worked. Working solo, Mucho Macho Man cruised through fractions of 12.2 for the opening eighth, continuing on through speedy splits of 23.4, 35.1, and 46:60 for the half. He then galloped out five-eighths in 59 and change and was caught in 12.3 for the sixth furlong. The 46 and 3 half mile breeze earned him bullet status as the fastest of 25 works for that distance.

In regards to the stellar breeze, Hatzikoutelis said, "He did it all in hand. He loves Churchill Downs and is floating over the track. He came back great!" Mucho Macho Man won two straight stakes races at Gulfstream Park during that track's winter meet. Typically horses that do well at Gulfstream do not like the deeper surface at Churchill, but that does not seem to be true of the 2012 Gulfstream Park Handicap champion. "He loves the cooler weather and the surface!" Hatzikoutelis proclaimed.

Next up for Mucho Macho Man is the G2 Alysheba Stakes at Churchill Downs on May 4th. Mucho's last trip to Churchill Downs saw him finish 3rd in the 2011 Kentucky Derby as a (technically) two-year old.
