Triple Group I winner Al Kazeem is to make a shock return to the racetrack after proving sub fertile in his second career as a stallion at The Queen's Royal Stud.
Following the completion of Al Kazeem's racing career he was purchased to stand at The Queen's Royal Stud in Sandringham, with prominent owner Sheikh Joaan Al Thani also taking buying a significant percentage of the colt's breeding rights.
However, recent releases have shown that the colt was deemed to be sub fertile, with the Racing Post stating that the colt has "failed to reach the required fertility levels" and an insurance claim has been submitted by the breeding parties.
The winner of the Coral-Eclipse, Prince of Wales' Stakes and the Tattersalls Gold Cup last term, Al Kazeem propelled the riding abilities of jockey James Doyle into the limelight on multiple occasions, whilst also providing a tribute to the exceptional training skills of trainer Roger Charlton.
However, despite his superb season, Al Kazeem was not celebrated at the Cartier Racing Awards in Europe, with Treve beating him to the Horse of the Year accolade and Moonlight Cloud snatching the Older Horse trophy from within his grasp.
Al Kazeem ended his season with a sixth placed finish in the Prix de L'Arc de Triomphe on ground which was deemed to be marginally unsuitable for the colt to provide his best showing.
Once described as the best horse Charlton has ever trained, Al Kazeem will return to his Beckhampton House Stables and be prepared for a return to the racetrack.
No initial targets have been pinpointed as yet.
