Tepin: All Hail the Queen

Most Tuesday mornings begin with a cup of coffee, perhaps an early meeting. But, on this Tuesday, June 14th, much of the country sat in front of a television or on a smart phone, glued to a live feed from Royal Ascot, all our eyes on one horse in particular— Tepin

The supermare which we have been so privileged to witness, did not disappoint, when she outran males, once again, winning the Group I Queen Anne Stakes by a half-length, and further cementing her place in racing history, as one highly accomplished racehorse.

All was not in Tepin’s favor, and just two short weeks ago, a trip to Royal Ascot was all but uncertain, as she would not be able to race with Lasix or her nasal strip, both of which she utilizes regularly. After much consideration, her connections came to the decision that the mare was capable of running sans both, and so the decision was made to send the Champion to the UK, to face the very best that Europe, known for its ability to produce and shape some of the greatest grass horses, had to offer.

Despite defeating males in the 2015 Breeders Cup Mile at Keeneland last October, and having claimed six impressive victories in a row, there was doubt whether Tepin could handle the soft turf that had resulted from rain, and the caliber of males which she would be taking on. She went off at odds of 3-1, and it is fairly certain that after adding today’s victory in the Queen Anne at Royal Ascot to her, already astounding resume, she will never be at odds of 3-1 again.

It seems Tepin has conquered just about everything. Having won the Breeders' Cup Mile and having now claimed an impressive victory at Royal Ascot, what else is there to do? What could possibly be next? One thing is for certain… Tepin is proving to be one of the greatest turf mares America, and possibly the world, has ever seen.
