Always Dreamy
I distinctly remember the first time horse racing’s Dynamic Dreamboat Duo of Scott Hazelton and Laffit Pincay III made me feel bad about myself. I was just starting out as a blogger on another website, and it was pretty much either TVG or HRTV on the tube around the clock at Casa de Dew. My girlfriend at the time took an interest in horse racing because she essentially had no choice. And as we got closer and closer to Derby time, it became clear that the ponies were not her only interest.
“Have you met Scott Hazelton?” she asked one night. I had not.
“What about Laffit Pincay?” was the follow up question. “Do you mean the guy on HRTV or the retired jockey?” I asked. “The hot one,” was her response. I had met neither the retired jockey nor the hot one.
And so it began. That girlfriend eventually became an ex-girlfriend and it was on to the next one. But the story was always the same. “Who’s that?” “Do you know him?” “Will he be at Charles Town this weekend?” “How come you aren’t on TV?” My God, it was constant!!! The feelings of inferiority and inadequacy started out as something I could easily manage and have led to me needing to change the channel any time the dreamy Hazelton or dreamy Pincay appear on the screen. I just haven’t got time for the pain. They are just both so dreamy.
I need time to process the current projected Kentucky Derby field. No intellectual energy for a Top 5 at this time. It’s highly unlikely my wagers will center around Classic Empire, and I am warming up to Always Dreamy…..I mean Dreaming. But beyond that, I need time. Please forgive me.
Ugh! There’s Hazelton again. Where’s the remote?
