Derby Wars Weekend Recap: Breeders' Cup Edition

Derby Wars Weekend Recap: Breeders' Cup Edition

The newest online tournament site Derby Wars held its first set of tournaments for the Breeders' Cup this past weekend.  As with the races themselves the contests were full of action and drama.  Derby Wars held its first two two-day contests featuring all of the Breeders' Cup stakes races.  David Goodhand took down the $1,500 15-Race Survivor and Jim O'Nail nailed the two-day $500 contest.

$1,500 BC 15-Race Survivor:

David Goodhand and Bill Downes were the only two participants to survive day-one of the two-day BC Survivor contest.  The tournament started with 317 handicappers and featured all 15 Breeders' Cup races from Friday and Saturday.  As the tourney started back-up on Saturday, it would last no-longer than the three minutes in which it took Afleet Again to stamp himself into Breeders' Cup history.  David Goodhand AKA Therealgoody would be the one to survive the gauntlet as Birdrun finished second to Afleet Again in the BC Marathon (Gr. II).  Ending up with seven strikes on the day, Mr. Goodhand took home a prize of $1,500.  Congratulations David!!

$500 BC 2-Day Point Contest:

The other contest Derby Wars hosted over the weekend was the $500 BC two-day tourney.  There were 250 participants that lined up to take on the 15-race event and after the first day of play Brian 'brianwspencer' Spencer and Travis 'tsreese' Reese were sitting atop the leaderboard.  Day-two would bring a lot of excitement however as the long-shots started tallying up wins.  Just as Mr. Spencer thought he had the contest wrapped up, Drosselmeyer came storming down the stretch to nip Game On Dude at the wire.  This was the strike that pushed Jim O'Nail (jimonail) into first and Brian Spencer into second.  Drosselmeyer paid $44.80 for the win-place format and was Jims' biggest hit on the day.  Overall, Mr. O'Nail had seven wins throughout the two-day affair and ended up earning $159.40.  Jim took home the top prize of $250.  Brian Spencer held on for second winning $150 and Janos Doczi took third for $100.  Good job you three.
