DerbyWars $20,000 Live Game: Meet Brent Sumja

Brent Sumja (Bsumone) was crowned the 2013 NHC Tour Champion, after setting the all-time points record by winning five of six events. Two years later, he is one of only ten qualifiers into the DerbyWars $20,000 Live Game!

Brent entered the first of five Live Game qualifiers and made a steady run to claim second. In the middle of the contest, Brent connected on Greywalls ($30.60) to position himself for one of the two seats available. He went on to cash in three of the last five races, including Prospect Park in his first grass start, to finish second.

Brent is certainly no stranger to big scores. He making four figures during visits to the track in high school. "I used my Apple II Plus to handicap when I was in high school and went eight for nine in my first ever appearance at the track," said Sumja. "I turned $30 into almost $2,000 and bought my parents a very expensive tea/coffee cart for their Anniversary, prompting them to ask me how I got the money. The disk was immediately confiscated, but luckily my water polo coach had asked me for a copy of it. I now have the cart in my home and I smile every time I see it."
