DerbyWars $20,000 Live Game: Meet Barry "Sniper" Spears

Barry Spears (BLS2063) is a former professional basketball star and is now arguably the hottest player on the contest scene. A multiple featured DerbyWars contests, such as the $5,000 Wednesday Webcast, Barry is aptly dubbed "The Sniper" for his unprecedented ability to gun down the leaders with huge long shots. He is now one of only ten players in the DerbyWars $20,000 Live Game!

In the second $20,000 Live Game Qualifier, Barry spent the first six races looking a good place to scope out his competition. He put himself within range with Spirit Rules, paying $45.20, in the seventh of twelve contest races. After losing ground in the next four races, Barry had one last bullet left for a patented "sniper shot". Down over forty dollars going into the finale, he acquired his target and fired Jeff Bonde's thirty-three to one first time starter, My Dynamo. It was mission accomplished as Barry vaulted from outside the top ten to second, good enough for a seat in the $20,000 Live Game in Louisville. His competition better run and hide, because no lead is safe against Barry "Sniper" Spears. 

" When I played basketball professionally in Europe and in college, I didn't get this same kind of excitement as I do playing DerbyWars," said Spears. "I was introduced to contests when my wife got pregnant in 2013. I didn't want to take trips to the track anymore, so I thought playing tournaments was a good idea for me. It has been working out well so far!"
