Had C R K Stable’s Exaulted run into just about any horse other than Nadal on debut, he may have broken his maiden Jan. 19 at Santa Anita Park. And it appears trainer Peter Eurton's treating his colt like a winner, entering him next in Sunday's $100,000 Mine that Bird Stakes at Sunland Park
Exaulted, who earned a spot in the latest 2020 Kentucky Derby Future Wager pool, is among six 3-year-olds entered in the 1 1/16-mile Mine That Bird, which serves as a local prep for the March 22 Sunland Derby (G3). The Sunland Derby awards 50 Kentucky Derby qualifying points -- and a likely spot in the Kentucky Derby gate -- to its winner.
Exaulted is a Twirling Candy colt out of the Gilded Time mare Gilded Miracle. He was purchased by Lee and Susan Searing’s C R K Stable for $200,000 at the 2018 Fasig-Tipton Saratoga yearling sale. Exaulted has posted three works since his debut effort, which includes a five-furlong drill in 1:00.60 on Saturday at Santa Anita.
Exaulted rallied from seventh in his debut to be 3 ¾ lengths behind Nadal. The effort earned Exaulted an 88 Brisnet Speed Figure, and Nadal went on from there to win the San Vicente Stakes (G2).
"I think he finished second to a very special horse," Eurton said earlier this month.

Exaulted closed at 99-1 in pool two of the Kentucky Derby Future Wager on Feb. 9.
Eurton previously mentioned a maiden race coming up Saturday as an option for Exaulted. The Mine That Bird could be a backup should that Santa Anita flight not fill; entries will be taken Wednesday.
The Mine that Bird, which goes as Race 9 at 6:36 p.m. ET, will also feature a second southern California shipper in Stackin Silver for trainer Richard Baltas. The son of Union rags dominated $50,000 maiden claimers in start No. 2 at Del Mar on Nov. 15 and came right back to win an allowance optional claiming race at Santa Anita by 5 ½ lengths when going a flat mile on Jan. 25.
Also entered in the Mine that Bird is Sir Rick, who most recently ran off to win a first-level allowance at Sam Houston going a flat mile on Jan. 18 for trainer Robertino Diodoro. The effort earned a race-high 96 Brisnet Speed Rating.
Breaking from the outside in the Mine that Bird is Calumet Farm’s Jungle Runner. The son of Candy Ride was most recently eighth at 56-1 in the Smarty Jones Stakes at Oaklawn Park for trainer Steve Asmussen.
