The Kentucky Derby's third-place finisher, Audible, will not return to the races anytime soon.
Trainer Todd Pletcher told the Daily Racing Form's Marcus Hersh that the Grade 1-winning colt is back out of training and won't have his name in the entries box until the end of this year.
“The bottom line is I just really wasn’t satisfied with his training,” Pletcher told Hersh on Friday. “After discussing it with the connections we felt like some additional time would do him well."
The long-term goal is the Pegasus World Cup, the world's richest race, set for its third running on Jan. 26, 2019.
News of Audible's first break from training caused quite the stir last month, as he was seen as top competition for then-Triple Crown hopeful Justify in the Belmont Stakes. Audible shares owners WinStar Farm, China Horse Club, Head of Plains Partners and Starlight Racing with Justify.
Audible was examined by a medical staff in Kentucky before returned to Pletcher, who has again shut down the Into Mischief colt's training. Pletcher told DRF it's unknown what's ailing Audible.
Before finishing third, narrowly behind Good Magic for runner-up in the Derby, Audible won both of Gulfstream Park's Holy Bull (G2) and Florida Derby (G1) to stamp himself as a leader in this 3-year-old crop.
