Since finishing 17th in the 2016 Kentucky Derby, Oscar Nominated has proven to be a much better horse on turf. He'll continue in search of a Grade 1 victory against a nice field lining up for Saturday's $300,000 United Nations Stakes going 1 3/8 miles at Monmouth Park.
Monmouth spokesman Tom Luicci lists the Mike Maker trainee as one of nine horses termed probable, plus two more at this point possible.
A 5-year-old son of owner Ken and Sarah Ramsey's top stallion, Kitten's Joy, Oscar Nominated will be making his fourth start of the year in the United Nations. He opened the campaign with a victory in Gulfstream Park's W. L. McKnight Handicap (G3), and going back to last year he also won the Kentucky Turf Cup (G3) at Kentucky Downs.
Oscar Nominated ran seventh of nine in the 2017 United Nations won by Bigger Picture, who will defend his title. Other probables, per Luicci, include Arklow, Kurilov, Money Multiplier, One Go All Go, Profiteer, Silverware and Vettori Kin, with two contenders possible from the Graham Motion barn.
Overall, Oscar Nominated has earned more than $1.4 million by racking up a record of 6-8-2 in 26 starts.
