Battle of Midway, after found subfertile in attempts to stand him at stud, returned to training last month at Keeneland. And now he's back on the West Coast, taking up residence in the same stall in trainer Jerry Hollendorfer's as he did before initial retirement.
Dan Ward, assistant to Hollendorfer, shared a photo of the 2017 Kentucky Derby runner, who finished third at odds of 40-1. By the end of the year, he more than validated that result while winning the Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile.
According to the Daily Racing Form, Battle of Midway, a son of Smart Strike, impregnated just five of 60 mares to which he was bred at WinStar Farm. The operation was able to collect insurance on him as a stallion. Given Battle of Midway's still just four years old, he was sent back to training.
Trainer Rodolphe Brisset began with the colt at Keeneland before his return to Hollendorfer. We'll plan to catch up soon with the current trainer on any plans. Likely, a race is still a long way off, as Battle of Midway hasn't registered a timed workout.
