In a Tizzy? Get a Kitty! (Chicago Handicap review)

On what was a spectacular day in Chicago, Kitty in a Tizzy sat mid pack for most of the race and let loose at the top of the stretch to win the Grade 3 Chicago Handicap by 1 length under winning jockey Cisco Torres.

The interesting thing about Kitty in a Tizzy is that she hadn’t won a race since June of 2010. That’s quite a long absence from the winners circle. However today was her day and trainer H. James Bond wouldn’t send a horse to Arlington for no reason, right?

Honey Chile set some very fast early fractions of :22.3 and :44.4 and had a pretty good lead through one half mile. However with these fast times you knew the race would fall apart and it certainly did. Kitty in a Tizzy shifted out to the three path at the top of the stretch and took over with a vengeance. Once she got the lead she didn’t look back but I was also thinking that post-time favorite Maude S might bring it in too as she stormed home like a freight train late, but it wasn’t enough to catch “Kitty” and finished second. The horse a lot of people thought would win, Ariana D, closed late as well but didn’t have enough room and finished third.

Still, the weather was great, the race was fantastic, and Arlington’s 2012 summer meet has been phenomenal!

I also wanted to take a moment to encourage all of you to contact Illinois Governor Pat Quinn’s office and tell him to sign bill SB1849! This bill has the potential to cement the future of Illinois racing for years to come. I wrote a blog last year about a similar bill and that blog explained why the Governor’s signature is so important to the future of racing in Chicago.
Also, the latest in the “Behind the Silks” series with jockey Tim Thornton can be found here!!
