Daughter of Medaglia D’oro Devil By Design ($10.60) won the
Chicago Handicap in her 2011 debut for trainer Bill Mott and jockey Corey Nakatani on Sunday 7/3/11.
Dr. Zic got out to an early lead by a length over post time
favorite Tidal Pool in a hot pace of 22 3/5.
Devil By Design tracked the pace in fourth then third to the quarter
pole. She started her move right on the
far turn to catch the leaders. At the
final furlong, the three horses charged three-wide and in the final 1/16 Devil
By Design pulled away for the victory!
Longest shot in the field La Rocca shipped in from Woodbine
and finished second also in her 2011 debut.
La Rocca charged in initially from the rail and switched out to the
middle of the track to try to catch the leaders. She charged very hard at the end for the
place and should be one to watch next time out.
The exacta was a nice $179.00 and the Sunday-only quinella
even paid $154.40 (remember the conversation about value at AP)!!
Chicago Handicap: RACE REPLAY
Up next, the Chicago Dark Horse preview of the Million preview... (that's awfully redundant, a preview of a preview...that reminds me of a Dilbert cartoon I saw once, if you eat pasta and anti-pasto does that cancel each other out leaving you hungry??)
