Horses to Watch

Reserve Currency (#9 Race 6 GP on 1/21/12) Mott firster was sent off at 25-1, slightly hesitated at the break, rated nicely though wide throughout, loomed large at the top of the stretch and just missed going 1 1/8 in his career debut. Won't get those odds next time, but expect him to be tighter and improve off that effort. A race replay can be viewed here. Gingham Doll (#5 Race 1 Penn National on 1/28/12) was making her first start since winning her debut 336 days ago. In a race lacking early speed, she raced at the back of the pack, made a big move on the turn only to have her momentum stopped. Once able to shake loose in the stretch, Gingham Doll finished stoutly. Look for her to improve 2nd start off the layoff, especially in a race with more early speed.

Sticker (#3 Race 2 Delta Downs on 2/23) was smashed at the break, cut off going into the first turn & almost clipped heels, appeared to looked like a Quarter Horse while speeding into contention up the backstretch. Turning for home, she looked to be finished, but dug in gamely to run 2nd, missing by only 3/4 of a length and beating the 3rd place horse by 2 lengths.
