HorseCenter: Woodbine Mile and Iroquois Stakes picks

Photo:

This week on HorseCenter your co-hosts Brian Zipse and Matt Shifman offer analysis and top picks for two races with Breeders' Cup implications, the Woodbine Mile and the Iroquois Stakes at Churchill Downs.

Modern Games, who won the 2021 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf for trainer Charlie Appleby, will prepare for this year’s world championships in the Grade 1 Woodbine Mile. Most recently, he was second in the Sussex (G1) behind the unbeaten European turf star Baaeed.

The Grade 3 Iroquois Stakes at Churchill Downs features nine 2-year-olds that will take the first chance to earn qualifying points for the 2023 Kentucky Derby. The race drew a notably strong field led by Echo Again, Damon’s Mound, and Jace’s Road who will have to stretch out at 1 1/16 miles for the first time.

Have a great weekend of thoroughbred racing and, as always thanks for watching the show.
