Wednesday's Best Bet: War Canoe a strong inside threat in Dayatthespa

Wednesday’s 5th race from Saratoga is the $85,000 Dayatthespa Stakes for New York-bred fillies and mares traveling a mile and a sixteenth on the inner turf course (Post Time - 3:02 p.m. ET).

#1 WAR CANOE (8-5) is a consistent, versatile mare. She moved to the Chad Brown barn and finished a solid 3rd in the Mount Vernon July 2, and that was her first start in more than seven months. I like how she mixed it up on the pace last time. Irad Ortiz Jr. stays put and she should save all the ground stalking the pace. 

#4 Classic Lady (7-5) missed by a nose in the Mount Vernon, and that was also her first start since November 2019. She had a great trip last time, and has the positional speed to keep the leaders in her sights. 

#5 Wish Upon (10-1) is back with state bred friends and this is her preferred trip. Luis Saez rode her a couple of times last fall, and she went to the lead in both of those state bred turf route stakes. 

#7 Vortex Road (8-1) is another with an affinity for this distance. She is sharp, fresh, and versatile. 

#2 Wegetsdamunnys (7-2) cuts back from a marathon in her third start after a layoff. She has won here before but is 0-for-4 at this distance, and appears best at a mile and an eighth and up. I can see the pace dependent mare rallying for a share.  

#6 Niko’s Dream (15-1) upset open company at Gulfstream May 17. She ran some quality races in New York last year and is not completely out of this. 

#3 Love and Love (2-1) is entered for main track only.
