Wednesday's Best Bet: Chess's Dream wakes up in Mystic Lake Derby
Wednesday’s 8th race from Canterbury Park is the $150,000 Mystic Lake Derby for three-year-olds traveling one mile on the turf course (Post Time 9:40 p.m. ET).
#2 CHESS’S DREAM (4-1) exits a clear show finish in the Penn Mile, and that race was originally scheduled for turf and run on a sloppy main track. Mike Maker’s versatile colt does some of his best work in one mile turf races including a victory in the Kitten’s Joy Stakes at Gulfstream Park over the winter.
#6 T D Dance (5-2) is three-for-four on turf and he exits a nice score in the James Murphy Stakes at Pimlico on the Preakness undercard. He figures to stalk the pace.
Inside speed can be dangerous in local flat mile turf races and #1 King of Miami (8-1) should make his presence felt throughout. The gelded son of American Pharoah blew out a three furlong bullet for this June 18 and his connections are easy to like.
#5 Holy Vow (10-1) earned some decent speed ratings at Sam Houston earlier this year. He reconnects with his winning rider Sophie Doyle and should be a pace factor.
