No. 12 American Mayhem (4-1) switched to turf in his last two starts at Ellis Park, and he smartly won both of those flat-mile races. He is versatile and on the upswing, and he drilled a Churchill Downs bullet for this engagement Sept. 7.

No. 5 Castle Leoch (6-1) graduated in a local turf sprint last year and captured a turf route at Belmont Park earlier this year. He finished in the middle of the pack in the Oceanside Stakes at Del Mar July 22, and Wesley Ward’s fresh colt should be finishing under Irad Ortiz Jr.

No. 6 Fuerteventura (9-2) ran into Annapolis in an OK effort in the Saranac (G3) Sept. 3. He won three routes earlier this year, including the Jersey Derby, and he probably will stalk the pace.

No. 9 Fort Washington (5-1) ran well in all three non-graded turf routes, including a victory in the Tale of the Cat at Monmouth Park June 26. Joel Rosario hops aboard, and he sports back-to-back bullets for this.

No. 7 Stitched (7-2) raced evenly in a local graded turf sprint stakes event Sept. 10, and he would be wheeling back quickly if connections opt for this spot. He tried this distance on turf five times, winning each of those races, and I like his early-pressing versatility.
