Thursday’s eighth race at Fair Grounds is a $58,000 allowance event for Louisiana-bred 3-year-olds and up who never have won two races. They will be dashing six furlongs on the main track. The scheduled post time is 5:15 p.m. EST.

No. 3 Sonofaship (4-1) returned to dirt and earned his diploma as the favorite from an outer post Jan. 20. Mike Maker’s early-pressing gelding ran well in both local dirt sprints.

No. 5 Carpis (7-2) went all the way as a 34-1 long shot in his local sprint bow Dec. 9, and the clear show finisher was a next-out winner. He was even money in the Louisiana Futurity on Dec. 31, and he battled on pace and missed by a half-length.

No. 7 Take Charge J J (9-2) rallied past Sonofaship in a local maiden race Nov. 25 and found his best stride too late in the Louisiana Futurity last time. He will try to get involved from off the pace.

No. 4 Got Me a Chrysler (9-2) was part of the trifecta in all seven starts. He picked up his first win on Jan. 6, and that was his first outing in more than six months. The consistent gelding projects a stalking trip.

No. 8 Le Monstre Rapide (9-2) dueled and prevailed by a neck in the local slop Dec. 16 and was clearly second best in a similar local sprint Jan. 18. He should impact the pace from the outside post.
