Thursday's Best Bet: Necker Island craves victory at Fair Grounds
Thursday's 7th race from Fair Grounds is the $150,000 Thanksgiving Classic for three-year-olds and up dashing six furlongs on the main track (Post Time 4:12 p.m. EST).
No. 1 NECKER ISLAND (3-1) turned back in distance and won his last two starts including the Bet On Sunshine under the Twin Spires Nov. 6. He is 3-for-3 in races around one-turn this year and might work out a nice ground saving trip behind the speed.
No. 3 Went West (8-1) exits a fast optional claiming win at this distance in Florida. Louie Roussel is a high percentage, low profile trainer, and the lightly raced, improving colt projects a decent inner tactical trip.
No. 7 Just Might (7-2) chased outside before fading in the Phoenix (G2) Oct. 8. He should appreciate the class relief, and he likes this course/distance and might get first run from the outside post.
No. 4 Greeley and Ben (7-2) captured his last nine starts and should make his presence felt throughout. This is his first local attempt.
