Sunday's Best Bet: War Bomber strikes first in Valedictory
Sunday’s 11th race from Woodbine is the Grade 3 Valedictory Stakes for three-year-olds and up traveling a mile and a half on the all-weather surface (Post Time 5:53 p.m. ET).
No. 3 WAR BOMBER (6-1) is an improving sophomore gelding with tactical speed, and he was sharp chasing above par fractions and winning as the chalk Nov. 14. He won four of his last five starts and proved he could handle synthetic footing in a local optional claiming score at nine furlongs last time. He looks like a forwardly placed contender if he is able to navigate the added ground of this race.
No. 5 Frosted Over (8-1) looked good chasing the pace and winning the slow early/fast late Ontario Derby (G3) Oct. 31, and show finisher Artie’s Storm clicked right back in the Lake Ontario and Steady Growth. Mark Casse's Frosted colt is on the upswing.
No. 11 Sir Winston (5-2) landed the place as the 3-2 favorite in his last two local stakes routes. He won the Belmont Stakes (G1) at this distance in 2019 and he always finishes in the top three at Woodbine.
No. 4 Special Forces (3-1) is always part of the trifecta at Woodbine. The ultra-consistent gelding is a multiple graded winner and the main challenge for this one is the marathon distance.
