Sunday’s 9th race from Saratoga is the $100,000 Birdstone Stakes for 4-year-olds and up traveling fourteen furlongs on the main track (Post Time 5:46 p.m. ET).

#1 STANDARD DEVIATION (4-1) has not been up to par in two starts since returning from the desert. He adds blinkers, returns to dirt, and fits with these on his best day. He has been competing exclusively on turf since June 2019, and began his career with four trifecta finishes from five dirt starts including a local maiden win. Graham Motion’s Curlin colt is interesting at a hint of a price with Joel Rosario in the saddle.

#5 American Tattoo (8-1) moves to the Jack Sisterson barn, and he can be dangerous with price horses in stakes races. He has the stamina to win a race like this and should be forwardly placed.

#6 Moretti (8-5) is a fairly reliable performer for Todd Pletcher. He finished in the top three in his last six starts. He removes blinkers and I like his early-pressing versatility.

Wagers:

#1 to win

Exacta 1/5-6

Exacta 5-6/1

Playing the horses can be a rewarding but tough game. Exacta, trifectas, superfectas, Pick 4s, Pick 5s -- there are so many wagers to play, it can get overly confusing. How do you know how much to play or which wagers to try? Unfortunately, part of the learning process can include losing money. But we would like to help you shortcut that process by learning some of the most common mistakes that horseplayers make on a daily basis. Take a look at Horse Racing Nation’s newest eBook -- “Top 10 Mistakes Horseplayers Make” -- and see if it helps you avoid some common mistakes and win more playing the races!
