No. 10 Solo Album (4-1) controlled the pace and kept on going as my value top choice in the Ontario Derby on Oct. 21, but she was inexplicably taken down for minor early interference. Mark Casse’s filly is in fine form this fall and she owns running style versatility. Sahin Civaci sticks with her and he chose this one over No. 4 Il Malocchio (6-1). The latter stalked the pace and finishing up nicely to win this race by a length at 9-1 odds last year. She won the Grade 3 Trillium on July 23 and completed the trifecta in the Seaway and Ontario Matron. Leading rider Kazushi Kimura is her new pilot and this is her third start after a layoff.
No. 11 Millie Girl (3-1) got up late to win the Ontario Matron at 1 1/16 miles on Oct. 14. She was a generous 4-1 last time and the consistent Hard Spun mare should be right there again if she handles the added ground of this race.
No. 8 Angelou (8-1) set the pace in her last three starts. She easily wired the field in the optional claiming ranks on June 2, and missed by a head in the Trillium and Ontario Matron. She attended the pace and was beaten a length in this race last year.
