No. 3 Perfect Flight (6-1) pressed the pace and held off stretch runner Exaulted to gamely prevailed by a head in a local dirt route on Oct. 9. He raced on turf once before and rallied for the place in the La Jolla. Uncle Mo is a quality turf sire and dam has tossed two turf winners, and he might get first run for the productive Ramon Vazquez and Peter Miller team.
No. 8 Speaking Scout (3-1) removed blinkers, stalked slow fractions, and burst away while getting a great inside trip in the Hawthorne Derby at this distance on Oct. 1. Juan Hernandez hops aboard for Graham Motion and running without blinkers seems like the key to success for this one.
No. 9 War At Sea (5-2) fired trifecta shots in all six starts. All three of his turf wins occurred at Santa Anita including the Cinema at this distance. The fresh colt projects an outside stalking trip under his winning pilot Mike Smith.
No. 5 Cabo Spirit (4-1) was compromised by a lack of pace in the Del Mar Derby. He won the La Jolla before that and captured the Eddie Logan at Santa Anita earlier this year.
No. 4 Handy Dandy (6-1) always fires trifecta shots on turf and should work out a decent stalking trip under Umberto Rispoli.
