Saturday’s eighth race at Gulfstream Park is the $75,000 Powder Break Stakes for fillies and mares traveling a mile and seventy yards on the all-weather surface. The scheduled post time is 4:05 p.m. EDT.

No. 3 Empress Ellie (3-1) was excellent in her last two all-weather romps as the favorite at this course and distance. The razor-sharp mare steps up to face better company and might be able to get out there and control the pace.

No. 9 Transient (9-2) is a turf marathon specialist shortening up and returning to all-weather ground. She ran well without winning in her previous three synthetic routes. She is seemingly using this race as a prep for long distance turf stakes races.

No. 6 Midnight Bella (9-2) is Transient’s stablemate and she has a nose for the wire. The sharp mare should be forwardly placed.

No. 4 Flying Black (12-1) is a consistent performer in all-weather routes. She can stalk or close and might get a piece of the purse at square odds.
