Monday’s 9th race from Fair Grounds is an optional claiming event for 2-year-old fillies dashing five and one-half furlongs on the turf course (Post Time 5:52 p.m. ET).

#9 SPUN D’ETAT (7-2) cuts back in distance and tries turf for Tom Amoss. She ran well in her first three dirt starts at six furlongs, and her dam Coup won the Hilltop Stakes on turf at Pimlico in 2012.

#5 Risky Reward (6-1) finished an even 3rd as the beaten favorite in a similar local turf sprint Dec. 6. She looked good scoring as the even money favorite in a special weight turf sprint under the Twin Spires Nov. 4, and she should make her presence felt throughout.

#4 New Boss (9-2) was clearly second best in the same race Risky Reward exits. That was the first turf attempt for the daughter of solid grass sire Street Boss, and I like her early-pressing versatility.

#8 Doc Girl (3-1) went all the way as the favorite in her course-distance debut Dec. 3. She should make her presence felt throughout if she runs a similar race.

#1 Taylor’s Tourist (6-1) will try to get involved late. Her recent dirt form is suspect but she did rally for the place in a turf sprint stakes at Kentucky Downs Sept. 15.

How do you know how much to play or which wagers to try? Unfortunately, part of the learning process can include losing money. But we would like to help you shortcut that process by learning some of the most common mistakes that horseplayers make on a daily basis.
