Monday's Best Bet: Reliant a trustworthy contender at Lone Star
Monday’s 9th race from Lone Star Park is a $40,800 maiden special weight event for fillies and mares traveling one mile on the turf course (Post Time 7:19 p.m. ET).
#3 RELIANT (5-1) hit the board in all four dirt sprint attempts and earned competitive speed ratings each time. Her trainer has good stats dirt-to-turf and with his first grass starters. She should be able to establish forward position from her inner draw.
#11 Santa Rita (5-2) is a $200k daughter of Curlin exiting a decent runner-up finish in a local turf sprint. She is bred to handle the added ground and needs to work out a trip from a wide post. The pace picture is murky and she might try to go on with it in this bulky field.
#7 Erin’s Creation (3-1) rallied to just miss in her last two maiden claiming turf routes at Remington Park. This is her first start in more than seven months and she will try to get involved late.
#10 Needs No Alibi (4-1) stalked from the outside post, led, and missed by less than a length as a 50-1 longshot in a similar local turf route May 29. These surprise improvers don’t usually follow up strong efforts.
