Friday's ninth race at Santa Anita is a starter optional-claiming event for fillies and mares traveling one mile on the turf course. The scheduled post time is 8:09 p.m. EDT.

No. 1 Weemissgrammy (3-1) set the pace and missed the show by a head as my top choice on Feb. 23, and that was her first start in more than ten months. Juan Hernandez takes the call and she should be fitter in her second start after a long layoff.

No. 2 Adelie (5-2) dropped into a maiden claiming turf route at Del Mar last fall and picked up her first win in her twelfth start that day. She competed in a similar local turf route on Feb. 23 and stalked the pace and was second best.

No. 3 Marinas Tina (5-1) dropped out of the special weight ranks and graduated as the favorite on March 4, and that was her first outing in more than ten months. Phil D’Amato has good stats with his second after a layoff runners, and Antonio Fresu stays put and he seemingly chose this one over Weemissgrammy and no. 6 Ankyrah (6-1). The latter removed blinkers, stretched back out, and finished a solid second in a restricted claiming affair at one mile on Feb. 15.
