#11 SQUARE DEAL (7-2) was my best bet top pick in an open turf sprint stakes Oct. 6, but only rallied mildly to split a 10-horse field that day. He rallied to win back-to-back California-bred dirt sprint stakes at Del Mar over the summer, and Simon Callaghan’s $230k purchase can start a new win streak today.
#7 Chipper (8-1) is an interesting second time out maiden for Mark Glatt (6 for last 13 & +ROI with second timers). He rallied to finish a good 2nd of 11 from the difficult inside post in his Del Mar dirt sprint debut Oct. 5, and winner #2 Cali Dude (4-1) is entered here as well. He drew well and might not be out of this. The latter dueled and inched clear in his bow, and should have company on the front end.
#8 Great Ulysses (8-1) easily broke his maiden at one mile in his bow, and was an okay 4th at this distance Oct. 5. South Bend beat him last time, and that one is 3-for-3 and just won the Street Sense Stakes at Churchill Downs Oct. 27. Brad Cox has good stats first time blinkers and Javier Castellano rides.
