2016 Preakness Day in Photos

Photo: Averie Levanti

It's been quite a while since I shared some of my photos on HRN. After working the Preakness for the first time this past weekend, I thought it would be a good time to start again! Below are a few of the pictures I snapped of Preakness Day stakes action.

Always Sunshine kicked off stakes action with a win in the Maryland Sprint Handicap (G3).

Marengo Road pulled off a decisive 15-1 upset in the James W. Murphy.

High five following Marengo Road's first stakes win!

Reigning queen of turf sprinting, Lady Shipman, picked up another stakes win in The Very One.

It's a bird! It's a plane! It's a...Preakness day parachuter!?

Justin Squared scored in the Chick Lang for the Zayats.

Smile, you won!

Justin Squared has quite a tiny set of ears.

Pony love.

Mizz Money had the lead first time by in the Gallorette (G3).

Mizz Money (inside) gamely held off 70-1 shot Vielsalm (middle) and Heath (outside).

American Freedom showed true grit when rerallying past Voluntario to win the Sir Barton.

El Kabeir leads the Dixie field past the finish first time by.

El Kabeir, too pretty for words, was quite literally bounding on the lead.

Takeover Target overcame some trouble and launched a last to first bid in the stretch to nail Ring Weekend on the wire.

The very adorable Cherry Wine.

Exaggerator entering the paddock.

A Preakness winner to be.

Nyquist entering the paddock.

Awesome Speed, Nyquist, and Uncle Lino were in a mad dash for the lead the first time by in the Preakness...a mad dash that would result in the fastest opening quarter in Preakness history.

By the stretch run, it was all Exaggerator.

Exaggerator sure does love the mud.

Exaggerator.

Mud speckled and victorious.

Kent Desormeaux was sure loving it up for us photographers!
